Often, on this blog, I encourage you to make changes toward a clutter-free life. I talk about the benefits of decluttering and focusing on what’s most important to you. But there’s something else I need to tell you…
It may not be easy at first.
You may find yourself feeling added pressure for a period of time.
Untangling can take a while. If you don’t believe that, think about the last time you pulled your ear buds out of your bag to listen to your iPod. Seriously! How do they get so tangled just sitting there?!?!
Anyway, you know how long it takes to untangle that mess. The same can be true with our homes and lives. Things have become complicated. So, it will likely take some work to jump-start it and get it breathing properly again.
It probably won’t be as painful as you think, but it would be disingenuous of me to make it seem like the whole process is all roses.
It’s not. It can be a bit of a pain.
But, keep in mind, it’s not the decluttering that caused the stress…it’s the clutter!
In those moments of frustration, remember the pain of being “too busy.” Remember the piles and distraction. Not doing something begins to feel worse than the pain we’re experiencing from leaving it the way it is.
So, people who have less discretionary time should be some of the most motivated to eliminate those things that are crowding out their life. It may be tougher for us busy people to find time to declutter initially. But, this motivation may actually prove to create a better clutter-free experience overall.
Why? Because you are feeling the pain of the cluttered life! You have the most to gain from finding those tiny bits of time to work at it. You also have the most to lose if you don’t make it happen.
It may get a little harder before it gets easier. But don’t let that stop you! Push through it. Let your frustration with the way things are give you the strength to do the hard work.
